Safari

The 34th edition of the Florida Bicycle Safari will be held April 26th through May 1st in north Florida.  This event is one of the two large rides that the Florida Freewheelers organizes every year.  The ride has 3 and 6 day options that bring riders from all over the country together for rides on quiet country roads.

The first two days will be based at the Suwannee County Fairgrounds in Live Oak.  Different routes will be offered each day with several mileage options, including a century on Sunday. Monday, while the three-day cyclists loop back to Live Oak, six-day riders head north past the town of Madison.  The Safari will camp at the Cherry Lake campground for three nights.  A different route will be featured each day, again with several mileage options, and will include a century on Tuesday.

Our long time caterer, Dixie Grill, is promising another round of wonderful meals.  Each day will start with a buffet breakfast with eggs or pancakes, sausage, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, cereal, muffins, bagels, juice and coffee.  On the rides, there will be sag stops with all the goodies to keep you hydrated and fueled.  Dinners will be buffet style with something for everybody.  You will not go to bed hungry.  On Sunday and Wednesday afternoons we will have fresh corn on the cob and live music from the Freewheelin Band.

We also have some fun things to amuse you in the afternoons.  Leslee is returning with the Amazing Race and Cirque du Safari. Sarah is returning with So You Think You Can Dance.

Maps/Cue sheets of the routes will be provided at check-in and all routes will be clearly marked. There will be a mechanic on site and on the route to keep you riding.  The luggage for the six-day riders will be transported by Safari trucks.  Registration fees include camping facilities and meals.  Beginning with breakfast on Saturday all breakfasts and dinners will be catered by the Dixie Grill.  Lunches will be provided in Cherry Lake.  Club members receive a $25 discount off the registration fee so register today at http://www.floridabicyclesafari.com/
