Safari Withdrawal

Day 4 century riders: Fritz, Kris, Salli, Stuart, MC, Roger

The 2012 Florida Bicycle Safari is in the books.  This is the 20th year that the club has sponsored the Safari and they keep getting better and better.  Safari Director Mike Gladwin produced a great event with the help of over 60 volunteers.  New musical entertainment and a Safari event jersey added some changes to the ride from previous years.  As the ride ended on Thursday, April 26th several long time Safari riders were commenting that they hadn’t left yet and they were already suffering withdrawal and waiting for next year’s ride.

Comments from some of the 2012 Safari riders :

Thanks for a great week! It was a wonderful tour. You may take them for granted but this tour had the smoothest roads (pavement) and best marked routes that I’ve ever experienced on a tour. The afternoon snacks were also a very nice touch.  The food and entertainment was great! The only suggestion I have would be to add short evening meetings after dinner. Most other tours have them and they add comfort for new, out of area attendees. Typically, they give a course preview with things to see, route terrain, places to eat, weather forecasts, solicit experiences/input from riders, and answer questions. Thanks for a wonderful tour — I’ll be back.   Gary

I had a great time on Florida Safari. There were 11 people from Michigan that were there this year on my recommendation and more on previous years. It has proven to be a great training ride for us northerners.  Debbie

You did a fabulous job. So well organized and thanks for saving me with the tire and tube that shredded in Quitman. You’re the best.  Beverly

Thanks for all of the work that you and the rest of the volunteers did to make this year’s Safari a great cycling experience. From the food, to the scenery, to the cyclists participating, to the good roads, it was all very enjoyable. I hope to see you again sometime soon on another Safari ride.  Charlie

This ride is wonderful. I’ve met wonderful people, ridden excellent routes and enjoyed abundant food.  Thanks for everything. I can’t think of a better place to spend my birthday.  Sheila

It was the best.  I had the time of my life.  Great new and old friendships, great food, good camping.  Hope to do the ride next year.  Patty
