On November 22, 2014 the Florida Freewheelers were asked to take part in the Grand Opening Ceremonies of the completed Casselberry Trail.
The weather did not co-operate with us for a ride on the new trail but many of the city dignitaries were present. Congressman John Mica spoke to those hardy enough to brave the rain. The Mayor, Charlene Glancy, requested that I speak as a representative of the Florida Freewheelers. I was told that I had 90 seconds but took four minutes. This trail is very user friendly for runners, skaters, bicyclists and walkers.
Herb Dickens has done a great job incorporating this trail and the Kewannee Trail into a casual, sixteen mile Social Ride. Herb has developed a map for this ride and it is on the Florida Freewheelers web site.
Florida Freewheelers present in the picture were Dino Bojadzijev on the left, Herb Dickens standing next to Congressman Mica and Phil Mings on the right. Other notables that played a major role in completing the trail are Mark Gisclar, Public Works Director; Kelly Brock, Assistant Public Works Director; Linda Moore, Recreation Manager of Casselberry; five City Commissioners and of course Mayor Charlene Glancy. A job well done.
