After a short one year hiatus, we gathered together again at Blue Jacket Park in Baldwin Park for our Christmas Lights ride throughout Baldwin Park, Winter Park, Windsong and adjacent festively decorated communities. We gathered at the park and headed out right at 1800 hours with Stuart Beal as the ride leader and Penny Potter as our sweep. We had forty-five cyclists in our group and another three cyclists who arrived a little late but joined us at the end of the ride for refreshments.
The onset of a colder evening had the cyclists putting on an extra couple layers of clothes for the ride. The roads and trails were in perfect shape for the ride and the Christmas decorations were quite well done. We encountered quite a few drivers in holiday spirits who held at various intersections to let our group pass.
Mike Orlovsky, the FFW Social Director, set up a spread of cookies, peppermint bark, and cupcakes along with a cooler of soda, water, and apple juice. With the colder temperatures, we will make provisions next year for hot apple cider and a couple of lanterns to light the post ride picnic.
If you have other ideas and requests that will improve the ride, please email the Social Director.
Have a wonderful New Year and see you on the road in 2012!
