Camp Boggy Creek Challenge Ride

Our club is once again a proud sponsor of this very worthy event on September 8th.

We encourage our members to participate where 100% of the funds go toward this wonderful camp serving children between the ages of 6 – 16 with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The program includes nine “kids only” summer sessions and 20 family retreat weekends.

The mission of Camp Boggy Creek is to enrich the lives of such children by creating beautiful camping experiences that are memorable, exciting fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. The camp is staffed with many professionals – volunteer doctors, nurses, a complete emergency department and many, many other volunteers who give of themselves to ensure this mission is fulfilled.  In return they find that their lives are also greatly enriched by their interactions with the children.

The camp is an incredible place in a most beautiful setting not far from Mt. Dora & Eustis, Florida – a mere 20 minutes from Lake Mary or Sanford.  If you haven’t visited the camp I encourage you to do so. They will gladly take you on a tour of all the facilities if you call ahead.  It was one of the most rewarding experiences for my wife and I.  What a VERY “Special” place with outstanding facilities and what a remarkable job all the volunteers do for these beautiful children and their families.  The setting of the camp site is so serene and encompassed with nature.

Some things you should know about Camp Boggy Creek:

  •  Programs and facilities are specifically designed for children with serious illnesses
  •  No camper or family member pays to attend camp. Camp Boggy Creek is dependent on cash donations from individuals, foundations, corporations and medical partners
  •  Each session takes place under the careful, but unobtrusive, supervision of doctors and nurses with the support of a 24 hour, high quality medical facility (The Patch)
  •  Activities include archery, swimming, arts and crafts, boating and fishing, horseback riding and many others

“There really is no place else on earth at which such joy and love is so readily available. I don’t know the next time I will see such beautiful things happening on a daily basis. These campers are amazing and I believe Boggy is one of the only places that they can really let their true selves shine.

Over and over, countless campers and counselors said that this was the best week of their life, and that they had found best friends at camp. There is no feeling in the world like knowing the difference we have made to these children’s lives; knowing that we have given them the opportunity to have fun, to be safe, respected, and loved and to no longer feel different.” (David ’10)

I hope to see many of you on the ride this year for such a great event.  It was a great experience last year with over 200 cyclists participating with great SAG stops and I assure you, their food spread and activities for the riders following the ride are second to none – just phenomenal!  So climb aboard and let’s have a GREAT ride for a worthy cause.  Click [here] for more information.
